Aluminum oxide is an oxygen-containing compound which can be made from aluminum. Even the name electrocorundum (short ELC) is a commonly used term for the connection, in particular in technical contexts. The oxide can be modified further, for example, in the cubic ?-Al2O3, which is also called alumina. It is an important raw material for the production of ceramics, which are then called alumina ceramic. The alumina ceramic is available in different qualities and degrees of purity. The material has excellent insulating properties, a medium to high mechanical strength and a very high compressive strength. There is also zero or hardly any corrosion or wear to worry about.
